Names in a Hat App Reviews

As a teacher this app is a must have. It helps group my students and the history lets me go back to those groups easily. I cant wait to use this when Secret Santa comes along. Really there are so many uses!

I recommend this app to anyone that wants to randomly draw names. I personally use it to assign teams for darts through assigning teams within a tournament. Since the update, the app has improved its usefulness 10 fold. Being able to save names & team names was the original apps downfall. The history also gets saved so you can refer back to it at any time. If you need a quick and easy way to randomly draw names its worth the 99 cents! If you already have it make sure you update!!

Thomas Peters this is really a great app! It is exactly what I was looking for and really comes in handy. I was in a tournament this past weekend and we needed to choose teams randomly. It worked out perfectly!! Keep up the great work and I look forward to any future apps!!!

I needed an App that would allow me, while on-stage, to pick winning names for a contest. Unfortunately, this App requires that you enter all the names manually. No way was I going to enter 500 names for this particular contest so I was not able to use the App. I downloaded this App hoping it would have an IMPORT feature, not mentioned in the description, but it did not. It would be great to be able to select a text file (1 name per line) when creating a list and pull the names in from a file from DropBox or Box.Net or some other syncd method. For 99-cents, the App does what it claims to do and will be usable for a good number of people. To have wider appeal, it really needs a way to import a list of names. I gave a rating of 4 overall. For a 5, it would need an import feature and slightly better animations.

I occasionally run a debate class of about 20 students. Normally, I use a deck of index cards to assign speeches, but today, I left them at home. Fortunately, this little app does exactly the same thing as the notecards for about the same price.

Overall its okay but you really need to be able to edit the lists you make because once you add something you cant take it off

Just swipe left or right on the name or list. Just like you do for any other iPhone app. And if you pull a name from a hat, how does it make sense for the name to still be in there? People are dumb.

Like it so far... Lets me easily walk around my classroom and call out random names. Wish for two functions that Im not seeing: -ability to pick pairs from main screen -setting so that names are continuously recycled. Keeps the students from slacking off. Love that it is clean and easy to use. Worth the $1 spent any day.

This app is great!! I highly recommend this. Looking forward to any other apps that Tom Peters may come out with!

Pretty simple, but phone auto corrected spelling of names and there is no way of editing the names once they are listed!! Cannot delete lists either once they are created. Really annoying. For $0.99 you should be able to have these two essential functions. Upgrade necessary people!!

I love that this app is able to randomly draw names or choose teams! I also really like that there is a history tab so you can go back to any of the drawings youve created. Another fantastic feature is that the lists can be copied or emailed! Genius!!! As for other reviews, editing and deleting IS possible, just slide your finger across the name, list, or team and click delete. Wish it were free but worth all 99 cents!!!!!!! If youre looking to put a name back in the hat after drawing it, check out "HAT by Cool Classroom Software" but it is not even half as good as this app. ((Note to app designer: add a feature to turn on/off draw all names before repeat; with that feature your app would feel complete))

Why cant I delete names on the group list???? Close but yet so far from 5 stars

A wonderful app! Always use it and it almost does everything I need it too. With two slight edits I will most definitely change this to a five star app! The two things I would really really appreciate in an update is 1. The ability of editing a name etc. without having to delete and re-enter the whole thing first and 2. The ability to shuffle the order around (I really need this as I keep items numerically and alphabetically) and when I have to delete things (as I am not able to edit them) I REALLY REALLY battle to search through the entire list first to see if there is a duplicate when a re-enter the correct name etc. You really cant have a duplicate on a randomizer - wont be fair ;-) great app though ;-) oh yes, and maybe a full size iPad version will be wonderful too :-)

Didnt think such an app existed but it does - works great if you cant decide on which restaurant to go to, if you need to pull names for gift swapping...type in the names, tap the screen, and youve "pulled" one. Genius and so helpful!

Works well. Handles different scenarios, such as auto-picking, multiple teams, emailing results.

The support function for this app is not working, it directs to a blank website. I would really like to delete names from the lists once i’ve used them, and can’t figure out how to do so. If there is any help available I”d appreciate it!
